Although it has been reported that Northern African opal was used to make tools as early as 4000 BC, the first published report of gem opal from Ethiopia appeared in 1994. These elegant earrings feature solid opal cabochons from the Welo district of Ethiopia. Welo opals were discovered in 2008 and have been found to be the most durable of all opal gems. Set in sterling silver by skilled artisans in India.
